Fun movie, lots of action -- moves fast! The animation was amazing, especially the night scenes. Funny characters, I especially liked The Dragon King and his two minions! The Monkey King is a little obnoxious & completely full of himself; a narcissist. I wish there were more songs, they were catchy, clever & funny! I liked that it was a little different, and actually a little weird, (not predictable.) That is certainly due to the original story being hundreds of years old. Favorite scene is in the peach garden. A whirlwind adventure for kids, but some jokes that adults will also find funny. I enjoyed it!

Synopsis
THE MONKEY KING is an action-packed family comedy that follows a charismatic Monkey and his magical fighting Stick on an epic quest for victory over 100 demons, an eccentric Dragon King, and Monkey's greatest foe of all -his own ego. Along the way, a young village girl challenges his self-centered attitude and shows him that even the smallest pebble can have a big effect on the world.

The movie looks decent enough but why oh why did they make the monkey such a self centered egotistical character. A certain amount of arrogance can be okay but some humor needs to be added if that character needs to be likable. This monkey is just completely unlikable. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. He's useless without his staff and everything is just way too easy for him.<br/><br/>Storywise it's okay. Never read the original story so i can't compare that. Lots of flash fightscenes with a metal soundtrack. I'm guessing this movie is targeted toward kids/teens. The kids liked the movie. The adults hated it.

I just watched this movie thought it was great and then am suprised to see people give negative ratings on here. It seems the reason is because its a traditional folk tale and people dont like how its changed. Well who cares, the whole theme of the monkey king's character is doing whatever you want, and that nature is seen throughout the creative aspects of the film. Specifically the first half of the movie I thought was really good because it felt very unique to other films. But the second half is great too. Also something that stood out were the character designs/art style/animations, which felt very unique. Especially the immortal characters, they had an other-wordly feel to them. Also, the movie is pretty funny too. There are lots of creative, charming ideas and fun moments. The End.
